Havasu and the Bridge Built on Sand

My first impression of Havasu was windy, dusty, dry and nothing to do. Yesterday was kind of a hard day despite it being Christmas. It took us 2 hours to drive up here and for some reason I felt carsick the whole way. (I never get car sick.)
After we arrived it was too windy and gross outside to really do anything so we sat in the room and fought with the wireless internet (which tends to cut in and out). Mom, Dad and I brought gifts to open here and I basically fought tears the whole time because I kept thinking of how my Christmas ended up being in a place completely opposite from where I had originally planned to spend it. It was really nice to be with Mom and Dad though and I know if I were 5,000 miles away I would have missed my family terribly over Christmas.
My perspective changed a lot today. The wind calmed overnight and today is beautiful... Warm and sunny and blue skies all around. We walked down by the lake and spent a few minutes relaxing by the water. Havasu is known for its London Bridge, the very one from the song "London Bridge is falling down". It was built in 1831 and really was falling down over the Thames River in London (1/8 of an inch a year) so it was sold for about 2.4 million dollars, dismantled in a 3 year process and shipped (and trucked) to the middle of the desert. It was the only bridge ever to be built on dry land. The river was later built under the bridge and the original peninsula here was made into an island.

Christmas Eve

Bree asked for a "pictew wit Annie Kawi". (Picture with Auntie Kari.) She loves to have her picture taken with a digital camera and runs over to see it on the screen after it's taken. She also wanted a picture with "Unc Ken" (Uncle Kevin)...And "Gate-gamma"! (Great-grandma) Waiting while the pile of presents in front of each person grew... I have NO idea what Kevin was saying here but it looks funny! Mom passed out the presents... We sat in a circle and each person would open a present in turn. Bree loved her presents and could hardly wait for her turn! Mom and Dad Jess's parents Jess, Kev and Darren Bry, Shannon and Jess Jessica opening a present to Baby.

We really missed having Jeff, Renee, Carter and Camden with us!!! I hope you guys had fun and I can't wait to see you!

The Weekend

We're home... for a short time. We had wonderful special mtgs! Brought a sister back with us who is staying a night with Grandma... We stopped once we got into town for dinner. Dad was telling her about conventions in Ireland and the funny customs they have as far as meals go. He says, "They have NO NAPKINS on the table!!!" Two minutes later our waitress comes with an annoyed look on her face and plops a massive pile of napkins right in front of Dad and leaves again without a word. The funny thing is the bill was already paid and we were finished eating.

We all had a good laugh over that. (Well... all of us except the waitress.)

Saturday we mostly-drove, partly-hiked up to this canyon where there was a beautiful view for the city and surrounding mountains. Here is Dad peeking into the canyon...

We drove home through a bit of snow. I don't get to see snow often so I snapped as many pictures as you can snap from a moving car.

We met Aunt Glenna and Uncle Errol in Mesquite for our traditional Starbucks stop.Home sweet Nevada!

So now we are home long enough to unpack, do some laundry and spend Christmas eve with the fam. before we are off again!
