The Lake Adventure

Yesterday Kyle and I went to Lake Mead. For once, I thought of everything. Ice box stocked full of water bottles and pop, check. Tube to blow up and float on, check. Backpack with books. And towels. And pump to blow up tube. And tow-line to tie tube to rock so we don't blow away. And snacks. Check. Rajan the very over-excited dog, check. With leash. Check.

You get the picture.

Dad, Mom and I had once been to this little cove near the old marina (which they moved when the lake got too low last year) that was nice and quiet and calm and pretty. I wasn't exactly sure where it was in relation to the boat launch but I was confident we would find it. Especially after I remembered to pack everything like that. I was on a roll. I was very proud of myself.

Until we got to the lake.

We parked at the boat launch and looked around. No cove, but a little ridge looked promising so we left everything in the car, took Raj and climbed up to get a better look. Slightly out of breath and at the top; lots of dirt, rocks, stray bushes and for some weird reason, a row of empty deserted dumpsters. But I had a good feeling. So we kept walking.

A few minutes later my good feeling turned out to be right. A nice, calm little cove, just like I remembered. I was excited.

Until I remembered how I remembered everything.

Ice box stocked full of water bottles and pop that two people seriously couldn't drink by themselves. Check. Okay, so the tube was a good idea but it was flipping heavy and hopefully those really sharp branches didn't poke any holes in it. (Check.) Backpack with books that we didn't even need, towels that interestingly enough get extremely heavy when wet and a pump that took way too much time to figure out how to use. We had just eaten lunch, too... Who needs snacks when you just had lunch? Rajan the very over-excited dog pulling my arm out of my socket with leash. Check.

A half hour later we dumped 'everything' by the shore of the cove and downed a few of the drinks from the cooler. By the time we got the tube blown up we were ready for some much-needed relaxation.
At first I thought stuffing a hyper, 100 pound German shepherd dog into the backseat of my car (where he drooled and whined the whole way) AND hopping in next to him to make sure he stayed down the whole drive was a bad idea but Raj enjoyed the adventure so much I was glad I brought him.Raj spotted a duck swimming near the middle of the cove. He loves chasing birds so I told him to "go get it". He charged in with gusto before realizing maybe the duck was farther away than he had first thought. There's his little head out there in the lake.We stayed for about an hour before packing up and hauling 'everything' back to the car again. Ice box, backpack, tube, wet-tired-happy dog. Raj stretched out on the backseat, laid his head on my lap and didn't look up again until we got home.

Kyles Learns How To Make Cookies

Chocolate chip, to be exact. He wasn't too interested in the baking part. He did, however, pose for a picture with only mild complaint, nodded and "mmhmm"-ed at all the appropriate moments, and pretended to know what my bossy instructions were about most of the time.

Funnily enough he was very interested in the end result.

The Week

Lots to catch up on! On April 11th Steve, Lori and Karissa were in town so we had a bbq with them and the family. Dane was over too so the kids had fun running around the backyard while it was light out.Karissa was great with the kids!everyoneAuntie Glenna swinging with Camden and Bree.On the 18th I had the door open enjoying a nice breeze and Rajan decided to wander in and meet Mr. Popper (the penguin that Kyle gave me). He wasn't too sure about him at first...But they quickly became friends.Later that day Uncle Gary came into town and we went over to Grandma's for dinner.Grandma gave Bree a coloring book that kept her busy for most of the evening. And, finally, I've been sorting through some more pictures that have been hanging around in the garage for almost 2 years. I figured out how to work the scanner on my new printer so had fun with these. This one was taken when I was 4. Here I am apparently trying to fit in with the guys (L to R- Kevin, Loren and Jeff) at Bryan's highschool graduation. I would've been seven or eight.I've always loved piano (except for when I was taking lessons, of course!)... Here I am with my very first one. This was my third-ish birthday. It was Little Mermaid themed. This is one of my favs... me and Bryan.

Sometimes life can make you fret. One day you think you're sailing through...and the next you wake up and realize you've made a mess of it.You think, "What!? How did this happen?"You wonder how you got to this place. **You might develop an annoying habit of biting your nails,or of eating everything you can get your hands on.You feel like you can't do anything right. It's as if the universe is pulling you every which way.Yikes! *"Soon," you tell yourself, "things will look up."You feel so exhausted you can't even stand. But don't cry about it.Whenever you fall down, just remember, it's the little things in life that matter, like an encouraging lift from friends or family.Giving will make you feel better, too. A simple gesture, like a hug, can brighten someone's whole day.You might find friends you didn't even know you had!You never know what might be written in the stars for you.Don't let fear hold you back.Just go for it.Tell yourself, "I'm gonna get out there and get it done!" *Don't just sit on the sidelines, jump in and try new things. You'll be cruisin' through life again in no time.

*Thanks for those two pics of Jhett, Renee!

Do you ever wish your boss had a (non-evil) sense of humor?

This was in the jobs section of our newspaper this morning:

Sales
ALLIGATORS
FEMALE OR MALE
Last week we found 1 alligator, we are still looking for 3 more alligators to fill the 4 positions that are open. We are interested in hiring 3 semi-obnoxious, pushy sales pros for a very boring, repetitious job of selling. My current staff, the laziest group of individuals you will ever meet, drag themselves to work weekly to decide whether to complain about the weather, coffee, the thermostat or their manager.
When that's over, somehow they manage to organize themselves, work their appointments and make lots of money, which is surprising.... no one wants to buy anything we sell because the economy stinks. Applicants should have skin like an alligator and desire to suffer their way to a $100,000+ year career.
If interested apply in person only: Centaur Art Galleries

Ahh... a job description that actually accurately describes the position and still makes you want to apply (if only out of curiosity)!
